The Age of Aquarius
24 April 2026
There’s a lot of talk in astrological circles at the moment about really big planetary shifts and I’m not an astrologist. I’m not going to pretend that I am. What I’m noticing myself from an internal view is that there is big changes happening within myself and within the world around me. What comes to me most of the time about this is the change which I would interpret as the biggest one - being the change from the Age of Capricorn into the Age of Aquarius.
I see the Age of Capricorn as being one of structure, aggression, determination, forging ahead, strong will, ambition, hard work, discipline, realism, practicality, resilience, patience, strategy, loyalty, protectiveness, stoicism, independence, leadership, management, strong moral compass, resourcefulness, stubbornness, rigidity, pessimism, focused on work, neglecting self-care, grounded, diligence, attention focused, good with money, methodical, scrupulous, respectful, cautious, melancholy, egotistical, manipulative, unforgiving, selfish, cynical, fatalistic.
I tried to incorporate the positive and the less positive traits of Capricornian energy here, and for me it actually is not only a personal thing because it is also a corporate, governance, spiritual, and collective thing as well. In living in the Age of Capricorn it’s not just individuals who have these traits, it is the energy of all that is, during that age, in some form or another. Even just saying those traits out loud to write this, I recognise all the times throughout my own life where I have wondered about the absence of some of these more positive things and the rise in some of the traits that I perceived to be less positive at the time. Judgement is another Capricornian trait and so is discernment, and as someone who has their Sun in Capricorn in the 2nd house, I have lived a life with the trait of judgement being very prominent, so I’m actually grateful to be entering a new age and feeling the lessening of that trait in myself more and more each day.
In contrast, Aquariun traits are quite different. While Capricorn is an earth sign and has a lot of earthy motivators and essences, Aquarius is an air sign and is completely different in so many ways. Aquarius traits can encompass progressiveness, independence, intelligence, deeply humanitarian, Innovation, freedom, intellectual connection, unconventionality, eccentricities, aloofness, emotional detachment, forward thinking, inventive, supporting social causes, acting with compassion, hate to be constrained by rules or conventions, eclectic, risktaking, unconventional, rebellious, technical, truthful, assertive, confident, open-minded, thoughtful, idealistic, intuitive, generous, original, independent, unpredictable, contradictory, chaotic, quirky, imaginative, creative, sarcastic, nonconformist, mysterious, detached.
For me even looking up the Aquarius and Capricornian traits presents curiosity because the lists will usually still be compiled from a Capricornian mindset in most cases yet. What stands out for me is that although it is a really big change, these two signs have a few things in common too so it’s not as huge a change as it might be if we were going from the Age of Capricorn to the Age of Pisces or Cancer in one jump. It is still a big change though and it will take almost the entire age to fully integrate. I won’t still be around in this form then and the likelihood is that you won’t be either so we don’t need to worry about that too much at the moment.
The main reason that I’m even reflecting on this is because it helps me to step back from my smallness and look at the world in general with more compassion and more understanding. It has been coming to me a lot lately that a lot of the things that I was previously worried about or fearful around, were only creating anxiety because I was still contemplating them from a Capricornian energy and not allowing the truth of the new Aquarius energy that is right now.
Essentially, I was looking at things through the filter from the past instead of the current filter that I need. When I remember this, it allows me to pause and take a breath and remind myself that I’m not back there where the old paradigm mattered and the old way of thinking helped. In the Capricornian age, I learned the Capricorn way and I needed to learn that because it helped then. I had to work really hard to learn it because although I have Sun in Capricorn, the Moon and my Ascendant were in Sagittarius when I was born, (although in Vedic astrology, the moon was in Scorpio and my ascendant was in Sagittarius). So I had to learn the Capricorn way, it didn’t just come to me easily, although perhaps more naturally than it did for some other others.
Now though, we’ve entered the age of Aquarius and that requires a whole new learning for me. I suspect it will require a whole new learning for most of us and hopefully we can have some compassion for that as we are coming into this together, this new learning. When centuries change, there is a whole new learning but this is the change of an Age not just a century and in this generation we’ve had both the change of a century and the change of an Age. It’s not a small thing.
Fortunately for me, I have Mercury in the 3rd house in Aquarius and so my mind and my communication style is actually better suited to the Age of Aquarius than it was to the last one. It was only through learning about the tiny bit of astrology that I have, that helped me to find peace around the way that I think and communicate. I have always felt like I didn’t understand others and they didn’t understand me and maybe that is the case, but it was more down to a difference in style of communicating and thinking rather than a lack of understanding.
I don’t want to go too much into the personal aspects of what the changing ages might mean because for today I really wanted to communicate the great need this creates at the moment for compassion for everyone because we’re all going through this, not just some of us. We’ll all be going through it in our own way, in our own style, and we will have our own worries, anxieties, and even pain from these changes. It’s always been this way, that we all go through these things in our own way, but the changing of an age, I think, requires us to dig deeper and try to find that space inside where we can have more compassion and empathy for each other as we all level up in a way that we never expected to.
And it’s not just individual, it’s corporate, it’s governance, it’s political, it is religious, it’s spiritual, it’s practical, and it is imaginative too. The changing of an age impacts every level both individually and collective. Understanding this and allowing myself to reflect on it for awhile, regularly, has really helped me to have more compassion and understanding for what it’s like for others outside my own being.
I hope that my sharing this helps you to go within and find your own understanding and level of compassion for the world too, and for yourself.
Many blessings upon us all.
